How the estimate works

Dogs grow at different rates depending on expected adult size. Our calculator uses a separate age-to-maturity curve for toy, small, medium, large, and giant dogs, then reports a range rather than a guaranteed outcome. Selecting a breed adds the published breed weight range as context; it does not override the puppy's observed weight.

We publish the curve points, formula, uncertainty bands, and limitations on our methodology page. The approach is a practical educational heuristic inspired by published canine growth research. It is not a validated clinical model and does not use private veterinary records.
