Australian Shepherd Adult Weight Calculator

A highly driven herding dog requiring immense physical and mental stimulation, known for their stunning coats.

Australian Shepherd Adult Weight Estimate

Estimate adult weight from sex- and size-specific curves derived from veterinary records, then see how the model performed on held-out dogs.

Australian Shepherd reference information

Aussies usually reach their complete physical maturation around 16 months of age.

The ranges below are general planning references used by this site. Individual dogs may fall outside them, especially crosses and dogs whose breed label is uncertain.

Size Category large
Male Reference Range 50 - 65 lbs
Female Reference Range 40 - 55 lbs

How this breed selection changes the estimate

The breed selection chooses the large distribution derived from veterinary records. If sex is selected, it uses the matching male or female curve; otherwise it uses the combined-sex curve. The central estimate comes only from the puppy's measurement and the data-derived growth fraction.

The listed Australian Shepherd reference range is shown beside the result but is not blended into or forced onto it. A disagreement can be useful: it may reflect uncertain ancestry, an unusual line, body condition, inaccurate age or weight, or ordinary individual variation.

Australian Shepherd example growth path

The table below starts with an illustrative adult weight of 53 lb—the midpoint of the listed male and female planning ranges—and applies the large distribution. It is not a target for every Australian Shepherd; it shows how the calculator's source data translate an adult outcome back into puppy-age measurements.

Age Median path Observed 10th–90th percentile path Training dogs
8 Weeks ~ 9 lbs 6–13 lbs 13,932
12 Weeks ~ 15 lbs 11–20 lbs 21,870
16 Weeks ~ 22 lbs 17–28 lbs 24,084
24 Weeks ~ 34 lbs 28–41 lbs 13,594
36 Weeks ~ 45 lbs 39–51 lbs 7,312
52 Weeks (1 Year) ~ 49 lbs 43–55 lbs 6,864
76 Weeks (1 Year+) ~ 52 lbs 47–56 lbs 7,483

Evidence behind the estimate

The curve tables were derived from 299,711 dogs with eligible puppy visits and a young-adult outcome, then evaluated on a separate 75,648-dog holdout group. Every result reports the relevant sample size and age-band error. See the validation report and complete methodology.

Use measurements for fit and health decisions

Do not use predicted adult weight to choose a medication dose, feeding amount, collar, harness, or crate. Use current body measurements, product instructions, and professional guidance. Ask a licensed veterinarian about unexpected growth or body-condition changes.
